Job Summary

In this role, the copywriter will build the Hartford Funds brand by writing creative articles that financial advisors can use with their clients. He or she will also work closely with product marketers, value-add marketers, and the communications team to ensure that all content has high-quality and creative writing. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and research skills, a keen eye for detail, and collaborate effectively across the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and write projects on financial and nonfinancial topics
  • Create content including web-based and print pieces that can be used by advisors as conversation starters with their clients and advisor-focused content
  • Leverage internal and external experts to create compelling and timely insights on financial markets, the economy, the benefits of particular asset classes, specific Hartford Funds and ETFs, and value-added/practice-management topics
  • Repackage compelling thought-leadership content from our sub-advisers and global investment strategist into a Hartford Funds’ branded template
  • Collaborate with graphic artists on design and layout
  • Build article pages for all content on using a content management system (Adobe CQ5)
  • Address all compliance comments to get content approved
  • Edit emails targeted to financial professionals and ensure they contain a compelling subject line and a clear call to action
  • Ensure that all pieces (both digital and print) contain the highest-quality writing possible, use a consistent tone, and follow Hartford Funds’ style guidelines
  • Enter all writing assignments into a project tracker to ensure projects are delivered on time or ahead of schedule


• A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, finance, or marketing

  • 1-3 years of experience in a mutual fund marketing communications position preferred
  • A demonstrated ability to independently research and write on a variety of topics in a clear, concise way
  • Writing samples should demonstrate creativity and content should be well-organized
  • Experience writing for the web preferred
  • A strong sense of curiosity and intellectual interest in topics relating to finance, asset management, content marketing, and writing for the web
  • Outstanding proofreading skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-starting/self-directed

All candidates will be asked to submit a resume and at least two writing samples. Any candidates selected for the interviewing process will be given a writing assignment to assess their abilities.
